I’m going to be blunt, but truthful. Erawan is the best Thai restaurant in Syracuse. From its reasonable prices, charming menu, and friendly staff, I enjoy coming back to this awesome restaurant, located on Erie Boulevard.

Erawan is a medium sized restaurant, with pink tablecloths and napkins, and tasteful Thai decorations, much of which are elephants (which is fitting as Erawan is a mythological Elephant in Thailand). The restaurant is not quite a hole-in-the-wall, and lacks the tackiness of a chain restaurant. It is humble and prides itself on serving good food.

The people dining there range from families, to couples, to individuals just trying to grab a quick bite. It is an all-purpose atmosphere, and very relaxed. They even do take-out for those on the run or too lazy to make prolonged public appearances.

The menu has all the typical Thai dishes, plus some more. I’ve sampled their traditional Tom Kha Gai, which is a creamy and spicy coconut soup with chicken, mushrooms, and hints of lemon grass and other spices. My favorite appetizer is their Tofu Tod, which is deep fried tofu in a very light, yet sweet and spicy sauce. I’m getting hungry just writing about it.

On my latest visit there, I went on a Monday evening, around five. My friend and I were the beginning of the dinner rush. We seated ourselves, and the waitress came over to take our drink orders, and was the perfect amount of charming without being overbearing.

I had the pleasure of having their Pad Thai, which came out in a timely manner and was scrumptious. This dish is made with rice noodles and stir fried with egg and shrimp, giving the noodles a little bit more weight. There is also tofu in the dish, crunchy peanuts sprinkled on it, and fresh bean sprouts on the side. The portion is on the larger side, so I had some to take home and relish the next day.

Although I sometimes go to other Thai restaurants in the Syracuse area, I am never disappointed with Erawan and prefer it to the others. The atmosphere is comfortable, the food is great, the price making it taste even better, and the people at Erawan are very sweet. It is a place I enjoy going back to again and again.

No way Erwans a 5. It’s good I agree but not that good. I know other restaurants that look better inside and where wait staff are nicer.

Wow! Someone reads my articles, thanks for posting!
I just wanted to clarify how I broke down giving Erawan 5 stars, (so in case anyone reads this miserable little piece, they will have a more rounded opinion). We rate on food, atmosphere, and service. Erawan has the best Thai food in Syracuse, the atmosphere is comfortable and I found the inside of the restaurant charming, and the service has always been pleasant (even having real conversations with them!). I didn’t realize they were a 5-star restaurant (by my standards) until I did this breakdown. Although initially I thought about changing some of the stars, I found it untruthful if I did…so there is the reason why I rated them so highly!
To give our readers a better view of this restaurant, how would you have broke it down and what stars would you have given Erawan? Thanks!
